Warehouse floors in Dubai take constant forklift and pallet-jack traffic, spills and cleaning. An epoxy system protects the slab and makes the space safer and easier to clean — if it's specified and installed correctly.
1. Preparation decides success
Most epoxy failures are bonding failures. The slab must be mechanically prepared by diamond grinding or shot blasting, cracks and joints repaired, and moisture tested. Coating over dust, curing compounds or oil contamination leads to peeling under traffic.
2. Choose the right system for the traffic
- Roller-applied coating: economical, light-to-medium traffic and storage.
- Self-levelling (2–3 mm+): heavy traffic, high hygiene, very durable.
- Anti-slip: loading bays, ramps, wash-down areas.
- PU topcoat: where sunlight reaches the floor, to reduce yellowing.
3. Plan around operations
Floors can be installed in zones or over weekends. Typical timings: foot traffic after about 24 hours, forklifts after 3–7 days depending on system and temperature.
4. Mark it while you're at it
Line marking for aisles, pedestrian walkways, racking and safety zones is easiest to add during installation.
5. Maintain it
Use pH-neutral cleaners, clean spills promptly and repair damage early. A well-maintained epoxy floor can be refreshed with a new topcoat rather than replaced.
